Yesterday at Fort Point

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I stopped by Fort Point yesterday hoping to catch some surfers taking advantage of the first big swell of the winter season. But, the tide and swell direction weren’t quite right for surfing.

I headed up to the top level of the fort and got a couple other pics. The Coast Guard motor lifeboat was beading back in under the Golden Gate Bridge.

2009 Ronstan Bridge to Bridge race

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

I missed the start of the Ronstan Bridge to Bridge race this year, but caught a few pics of the sailors as they were coming in. The race is a 3-way competition between the windsurfers, the Australian 18 skiffs, and the kitesurfers to see who can sail the downwind course from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge in the shortest time.

Today’s racing at College Sailing Nationals was the Women’s semi finals. Teams were competing for 9 spots in the finals taking place later this week. The day started with racing on the B course to offer some protection from the flooding current. Racing in the afternoon was on the A course just off the yacht club.

Spring Dinghy regatta

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Today was the last day of the Spring Dinghy regatta at St. Francis Yacht Club. There was a huge fleet of 505s, some 29ers, some small trimarans, and a few other dinghys. The breeze was from the southwest so the windward mark was set just off the breakwall near the yacht club. The offshore winds divided the fleet with some boats going up the right side of the course and some up the left.

The Rolex Big Boat Series Regatta is starting tomorrow at the St. Francis Yacht Club and runs through Sunday. I’m planning to head down on Saturday and Sunday to get some photos. It looks like there are more than 100 boats expected. I’m looking forward to seeing how fast the Melges 32’s are in the SF Bay conditions. For now, check out photos of past events…

I headed down to get some shots of the start of the race. Here’s a shot of the start of the race.

Final Day of US Windsurfing Nationals racing

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

The wind was up today for the final day of racing for this year’s US Windsurfing Nationals. With gusts to 30+ the juniors and RSX fleet made for the beach after one race. After a few minutes on the beach to regroup, the formula fleet headed out for one more race. I think everyone will sleep well tonight. Thanks to Christian for driving me around in the boat.
