While out at the beach watching the marathon, I found a few other things to photograph. This totem pole is looking out over Ocean Beach through the fog and seems to be saying “brrr it’s cold here.”
I really liked this coin operated telescope that seemed to be looking out to the other side of the ocean.
Yesterday’s storm was the first big storm for this season bringing nearly 3 inches of rain to San Francisco and ranked as the 7th strongest storm since 1955 on the Bay Area Storm Index. Although the forecast called for the storm to continue on into the night, the skies cleared just enough to make for a beautiful sunset. Here’s the view from Lands End overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
A couple mornings ago I woke up a little earlier than normal and noticed that there was a nearly full moon in the sky. Thinking about it a bit more, I thought I might be able to catch it setting over the ocean just about the same time the sun was coming up. Well, I had the right idea but was off with the timing just a bit. The sun came up at 7:15am but the moon didn’t set until 8:15am. By that time the moon was barely visible. I’ll have to check out the sun and moon times more closely and give it another shot. Here’s what I was able to salvage out of the excursion.
While the moon set turned out to be less than expected, there was a group of surfers that more than made up for it. They were getting in an early morning session and were surfing right where the sunrise light was shining over the hilltop – their own spotlight.
It was already after sunset but I headed down to the Sutro Baths at Lands End and was able to get a few cool shots before total darkness set in.
