6th annual Nike Women’s Marathon

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Today was the 6th annual Nike Women’s Marathon with around 20,000 participants. I headed out to the beach to catch a bit of the action. The stream of runners was constant for the whole hour I was watching. Here’s a shot of the runners descending the hill near the Cliff House. At the finish line, all runners were met by firemen in tuxedos who were presenting the finishing gift of a Tiffany’s necklace.

The American Lung Association hosted a climb up the 52 flights of stairs at the 555 California building in downtown San Francisco today. Tons of corporate teams, firemen, sheriffs deputies, and other supporters participated. Waves of runners started every 15 minutes with individual runners spaced about 10 seconds apart. Once at the top, they were greeted by an amazing view, live music and refreshments. Check out the 1500 photos of the event at fotojack.com.

The Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands put on the Run for the Seals today at Rodeo Beach. About 1,000 runners came out to support the cause and enjoy the beautiful weather. The normally foggy venue was nothing but bright sunshine. Check out my event photos at http://www.fotojack.com.

Turkey Beach Trot Thanksgiving Day Run

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Some people start off Thanksgiving Day with a parade. For 1,000 people in San Francisco, their day started off with a 5k run through Golden Gate Park. The run usually called the Turkey Beach Trot was relocated to the park year because of the oil spill cleanup taking place at Ocean Beach.  What makes this run a fun one is that many of the participants dress up as pilgrims and indians.

San Francisco marathon

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

The San Francisco marathon course went right past my house and since a few friends were running I ventured out into the cold, misty morning to get some shots.  The runners looked to be enjoying the cool weather.

Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

I headed up to Sonoma to shoot the official race photos for the Napa – Sonoma Half Marathon and 10k. The weather was beautiful. This must be one of the most scenic half marathons anywhere. The course runs right through wine country, past many vineyards and ends in downtown Sonoma.
