Evening session at Crissy Field

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I headed over to Candlestick hoping to get some pics of sailors taking advantage of the wind (25mph) that was ripping across the water. But only one sailor was out. What’s up with that? It seems like it’s always windy there and it’s right next to the freeway so it should be a great spot to sail on the way home from work. Anyway, I kept on driving and got down to Crissy Field in time to catch a few sailors out on the water.

Windsurfing at Waddell

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

The weather was amazing in San Francisco this weekend with sun and temps over 70 degrees every day. To take advantage of that and also due to the overall lack of any freestyle or wave windsurfing contests in the bay area this season, Whit Poor rallied a group of 11 sailors for an impromptu non-contest at Waddell. They ran a complete single elimination and losers round that ended up like this… 1st Whit, 2nd Bryce, 3rd Ian, 4th Arnot. Hopefully the idea catches on and we can get some events going again.

Sunset at the Sutro Baths

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

The Sutro Baths has to be one of my favorite places in all of San Francisco. It can also be one of the coldest. Today was definitely an exception. This is the sort of day that makes it easier to picture San Franciscans in the early 1900s visiting the bath house that is now just broken up concrete and rusting metal.

Virginia Hills

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

I spent this past weekend near Blacksburg, Virginia, not far from the Appalachian Trail and was able to get a few shots of the rolling hills, beautiful sky, and old buildings. There was a church on one of the hills that had been built in 1835.

Funk Out with Rock at the Rockit Room

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Real Options for City Kids (ROCK) held their annual Funk Out with Rock event last night at the Rockit Room on Clement Street in San Francisco. The event helps ROCK raise money to carry on their mission of serving the kids of San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood. Stymie and the Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra headlined. Everyone was grooving to the funky sound and getting their bids in for the silent auction.

Crissy Field Swap Meet and Afternoon Session

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Today was the day for the annual Crissy Field windsurfing swap meet, the day when everyone drags all their old gear out of the garage and tries to convince other people it is the best stuff ever. This year was a beautiful, sunny day and there was lots of good gear to be had. Thanks to all the people who stopped by to check out my photos. I’ve got a ton more now since Saturday afternoon was such a great session.

Tips for 2008 windsurfing season…

Cold and windy at Crissy Field

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

The sun was shining and it was really cold but that didn’t keep the windsurfers from heading out today. I put on my fleece and windbreaker with the hood up and struggled against the wind to make it to the edge of the water. I only lasted a short while but managed to get in a few good shots.
