I started the evening off with two tacos and a cervesa at La Taqueria in the Mission District in San Francisco. The place was jam-packed with people waiting for the start of the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festivities. The parade went right by the restaurant. There were quite a few people dressed in costumes. After the main part had gone by I joined in and followed it down the streets to Garfield Park where the community altar had been set up. Lots of people had left candles, flowers, and pictures of loved ones. If you’ve never seen the Day of the Dead celebration, plan to attend next year - in costume to get the full effect.
