Strong current under the Golden Gate

kitesurfing under the golden gate bridge in san francisco Today’s current was nearly 6 knots flowing out under the Golden Gate Bridge but that didn’t keep Steve Bodner (USA4) from getting on the water for some formula windsurfing training. I met up with steve at Fort Point - he was in the water and I was on shore. At times Steve looked like he was on a treadmill, sailing full speed but making no forward progress. There was also one brave person kitesurfing under the bridge and I got this shot just as he jumped. Luckily both riders were able to make it safely back to Crissy Field while there was still enough wind to overcome the strong current.Check out the photo gallery.

Behind the scenes zoo tour

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Yesterday, a friend who works at the San Francisco Zoo took me on a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo. We really lucked out on the weather too - sunny and warm instead of the usual cold and foggy. There was a Halloween event going on the zoo with lots of kids in costumes and decorations everywhere. A lot of the animals were getting special treats too.We saw all the regular stuff like bears, rhinos, and penguins. But the exciting part was getting to go places most zoo visitors never see. We met up with the marsupial keeper and got to go into the koala house to meet and pet the koalas.

Then we headed over to the giraffe house where we got to go in with the zoo’s baby giraffe who is 2 months old. He was a little hesitant at first of having new people in his space but then warmed right up to us and nearly put nose prints on my camera lens a couple times. Then we got to feed bananas to the adult giraffes. What an awesome experience. Thanks Kelly!

wedding photos at RH Phillips Winery Yesterday I shot photos at a wedding at the R.H. Phillips winery. The ceremony was held at sunset atop one of the hills overlooking the vineyard. The tasting room was set up for the reception with dinner served outside and dancing held inside. Hopefully, you’ll be seeing some of my photos posted on the R.H. Phillips website soon.

Rooftop view of the Blue Angels airshow

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Yesterday afternoon, I went to a friend’s house to watch the Blue Angels Fleet Week airshow from the rooftop of her building. Fleet Week is a San Francisco tradition. Somehow the weather always is amazing on the day of the airshow and this year was no exception. The whole city turned out to see the performance.
