Sunday windsurfing on the bay

I grabbed a boat for a couple hours this afternoon to get a different perspective on the windsurfers at Crissy Field. Instead of shooting from shore as I do most often, I headed outside of the Golden Gate to get a view back toward Crissy Field and the City. It’s not often that all the factors line up – wind, swell, sun, boat, sailors. Today was one of those days.

While most of the sailors stayed farther downwind, there were a few brave sailors that were riding the waves at Fort Point or outside The Gate.

Here’s a shot of Wyatt Miller navigating the big swell and big traffic and one of him mid-trick. Click on the photos below or on this link to see all the windsurfing photos.

Back closer to the beach, there was still more traffic to contend with. Drifting through the buzz of windsurfers was a bit like standing in the middle of the freeway during rush hour, non-stop action.

    Hi Shawn,
Did you post all of the pictures you took on Sunday? My boyfriend was sailing outside the bridge; he was on a green Naish sail. Did you take any pictures of him? Thanks for letting me know.

Sorry we missed you on Sunday but stopping with the 10m rig and formula board just wasnt an option in that 25-35k breeze. Its either full on of all the way off.
    Next time!
    Nice shots.

No Fort Point Shots? I may need some kleenex to work through this #;-)

David, I may have a few Fort Point shots, but nothing too fantastic this time, maybe a few from far away. There was no way I was getting in there with the boat. We surely would have flipped over and then you would have been hauling me out of the water.
