Today’s stage of the Amgen Tour of California started at 8:30am in Sausalito in a torrential downpour. But since this marked the first time a pro cycling event would ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, I didn’t want to miss it. I had my spot staked out at one of the abandoned bunkers overlooking the bridge. By 8:45, all car traffic across the bridge had been cleared off the bridge and stopped in both directions. After a parade of motorcyle police and other support vehicles, the peloton made its way across and into the Presidio. The race then continued down the coast to Santa Cruz.
